Ok God, it’s just you and me and the story of all time. No pressure right? Give me new ears to hear it tonight. Fill me with your spirit to speak about it and pray about it and point to it as The Story. But first, help me to breathe in and out your love. Your mercy. Your tender compassion for me. Fill my lungs with your breath, my heart with your love, my feet with your joy, my hands with your tenderness, my tongue with mercy upon mercy from you. I’m just another beggar looking for bread. And here you are, ready to feed me. To reassure me. To love me. To save me through love. Take away my need for perfection and just let things be. Because here it is – this day, this night, to tell once again your ancient story that is new and life changing. May it change me again. Help it to transform my cynicism into unbridled hope. And, at the end of the night, help me to set it all down and to hear your blessing that it was all good enough. Remind me that I am not in charge of what anyone else believes or does. You’re on top of that in your own way – thanks for that. 😊 Instead, in my heart of hearts, help me to believe that your coming to the world -to me – in the body of a helpless baby means that you are always up to things I cannot see coming and they are always about loving me into who I will be. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being born in me again today. I love you. Amen.
Ok dear friends – listen to the Christmas angel who said it best – “Don’t be afraid – God is with you!”
Merry Christmas.
