9 November 2025 Prayer for the Deacon, Chaplain, Pastor

God of unlimited imagination, you take my dim view for the world of simply hanging on or hanging in there and you turn it into a wild and joyful yawp of “yippy I-oh!” I am so grateful for your wild and limitless version of life. It’s not stopped by death and when my head gets bent down toward my belly button a little too often, you call me back with a promise of new life. You lift my chin up and you swear to me it will matter, it will make a difference even. Let me believe it today. In fits and starts or for a whole hour even! Your love for me is true just as it is true for everyone else. But just for right now, I will do my very best to take in your love that really is just for me. May your love not only make a difference, make THE difference, let it change my DNA, let it turn me inside out, flip me over and resurrect me. Yippe-I-Oh indeed! It all matters, God, because it matters to you first and foremost. Fill me up with your love today so that it overflows and shows me that resurrected life looks like all the little things that will be part of my day today. And the big things too. Help me see all the things as imaginative resurrection.

Make my love new for my loved ones today, God. For the ones who are dearest to me and drive me crazy. It’s such a fine line. And I pray for my colleagues and friends across the church and around the world. And for my CGP colleagues across southern Minnesota. Fill us with your hope and possibility. Make us fools for you once again today and every day.

I especially pray for my CGP colleagues in need of your love, your care, your imagination:

Becca Krogstad (Bethany, Moran and St. Matthews, Evan), as she grieves the recent death of her mom.

Nissa Peterson (Chatfield Lutheran & Root Prairie), as she and her family ride the rollercoaster of changing and declining health for her Grandpa Roger

Dale Degner (Trinity, Benson), for healing, patience, perseverance as he navigates the unrelenting schedule of cancer. And for a cure too!

Ben Hilding (Gustavus, St. Peter), for healing from surgery and for a cancer cure.

Oh God, we know you hold us and that you love us. That we are never out of your care. And we are so grateful. Amen.

Oh dear Child of God! Don’t lose heart. Don’t be afraid – God is with you.

If you have a prayer request for the CGP prayers, please email Laura at: aase@gustavus.edu. It can be as specific or as vague as you request. Don’t be shy – being prayed for is so powerful. Especially by other pastors, deacons, and chaplains.
