19 October 2025 Prayer for the Chaplain + Deacon + Pastor

God, you give me shape and form. You ground me in who I am only because of who you are. Help me see you clearly today so that…well, wait a second. Just help me see you clearly right now. To know I am seen fully by you and in your presence. That you are always with me. But right now, let your presence startle me awake. Call me more deeply into prayer. Show me who I am in light of you. The “so that’s” will come soon enough. Now, I simply ask to be known. Fully known by you. You want everything to do with me. Because you made me that way. Show me once again your creative love. Your redeeming mercy. Your justifying prowess. None of it is mine. All of it is you.  You meet me in this moment when I do not have words. You meet me when I don’t expect you, and for that I am more grateful than I can even imagine. Thank you for not being limited by my brain and heart and life. You show up in me and through me and despite me and this is a wonder. Thank you.

God, remind me that you are always disrupting my life. You listen to me. You hear me out. And you change my mind through my heart over and over again. So as you show up in me today, help me to see you in others. Those who you have called me to serve and love and walk with through so many of the things. Remind me that you are God and I am not so that – so that! – my creative work puts good things into the world that only and ever point to you. And only and ever are in the world because of you.

I ask you to flow through the hearts of my family today – family I have chosen and family I was born into. Transform our ways of seeing and loving so that our first instinct is to love each other. Our home base.

And I pray for my colleagues in CGP, especially this day for Dale Degner who continues to live with cancer and scans and surgeries – an unholy calendar of waiting. Stir up his faith and remind him he is not alone. For Scott Richards and his family who grieve the death of his dad, Robert. Surround Scott with reminders of your continuing love through his grief.

You, God, are what sustains me and gives me life. When I forget that, remind me and don’t give up on me. I know you won’t. I love you. Amen.

Oh dear Child of God! Don’t lose heart. Don’t be afraid – God is with you.
