15 February 2026 Prayer for the Pastor + Deacon + Chaplain

Ready me, prepare me, God. Attend to my broken heart today as I encounter the people you love and have called me to serve. For all the hard news in Minnesota and around the world and the people I know who are suffering – and then to try and face my own people and say something? Well, be attentive to me and my heart right now God, so that I may have the stomach to do it! Prepare a spot on the mountainside for me to get a glimpse of your glory. Drag me up the mountain if you have to. Help me to remember how stinkin’ beloved I am because of you. And to be blown away by your power and to fall on my knees in awe that I am included within the realm of your love. Wow. And then help me to release my tight grip on the container I think I can keep you in, so that I can go back down into where you have called me to be to tell everyone of just what you have done, are doing, will do! Help me be attentive to your love in my life, like a lamp shining in my dark heart. Only you can cause the morning star to rise in my broken, dark heart.

I pray for the beating hearts and lives of my beloveds, my family, my closest ones. Help me attend well to them and them to me. And when we don’t or when I get ahead of myself, help me to practice forgiveness – giving and receiving it.

I pray for the broken, burdened, beating hearts of my colleagues across the ELCA, the church, and across denominational lines. And I especially pray for my CGP colleagues.

For all the many seen and unseen things my colleagues are up to in protecting and reaching out to the neighbor in these very stark and troubling times.

Thank you, God, for your creative work in my life, for not giving up on this messed up world or me. I love you. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

If you have a prayer request for the CGP prayers, please email Laura at: aase@gustavus.edu. It can be as specific or as vague as you request. Don’t be shy – being prayed for is so powerful. Especially by other pastors, deacons, and chaplains.
